From the box to a piece that stands true
Flat-pack assembly makes up the largest share of this family: bookcases, wardrobes, beds, desks, modular kitchens, whatever the brand. The gain is not only the time saved — it is a piece that stands true, whose doors close square and which does not sag after six months because one cam fitting was tightened crooked.
Wall fixings come next, and they hold more surprises than any flat pack. A shelf, a heavy mirror, a hanging rail or a TV bracket holds according to the wall behind it: single plasterboard, lined plasterboard, the hollow Toulouse brick, concrete, stone. Every substrate calls for its own fixing. Reading that wall — and locating cables and pipes first — is what separates a safe fixing from one that tears out under the first load.
The family also covers everything in light joinery: curtain and shower rails, indoor blinds, manual roller shutters to replace or adjust, shelves, hooks, letterboxes. If you have not bought the hardware yet, say so: it is better to confirm the fixing and the size before your trip to the shop.
Assembly: common questions
Can a plasterboard wall hold a television?
Yes, provided the metal studs are hit or expanding fixings rated for the weight stated by the bracket maker are used. On board fixed to a frame, a fixing into the void between two studs will not last, however many screws go in. Locating the studs with a detector comes before the first hole.
Do you take the packaging away?
It is always flattened and stacked. If you want it gone, disposal at the recycling centre is added to the quotation: it is one extra trip, but it beats keeping three cubic metres of cardboard in a Toulouse flat.
What happens if a part is missing from the pack?
Everything that can be built is built, the missing reference is identified precisely and you order it from the retailer — free of charge with most brands. The return visit to finish is charged on the time actually spent, not as a fresh call-out.
