Four very different things
Soft floor coverings first: vinyl sheet, click or self-adhesive PVC tiles, in a bedroom, a hallway, a kitchen or a shop stockroom. Preparation matters more than laying: a floor that is not clean, dry and flat pushes every defect up through the covering, and an adhesive tile laid on dust lifts within weeks.
Small masonry next: anchoring a post, a bar or a bracket into concrete, filling a chase after a cable run, patching damaged render over a small area, re-bedding a loose step. Nothing structural, nothing load-bearing — localised repair.
Heavy fixings form the third strand, and they demand the most method: drilling into concrete or brick, chemical or expansion anchors, locating services first. A garden swing seat, a wall bike rack, a safe or a garage shelf loaded to a hundred kilos are not fixed like a picture frame.
Finally, moving help and carrying: getting a sofa down a narrow city-centre stairwell, taking a washing machine up to the third floor without a lift, emptying a cellar. This help is booked by the hour, and the number of floors is better announced before rather than during.
Miscellaneous: the details
Can vinyl flooring be laid over the existing covering?
Often yes, over flat tiling or a sound hard floor, provided hollow joints are levelled and high points treated. Over carpet, a moving timber floor or a damp slab, the answer is no: the covering would follow the defect and take the mark of every irregularity within months.
Do you drill into reinforced concrete?
Into a standard concrete slab or wall, yes, with a hammer drill and after locating services with a detector. In a structural element with closely spaced steel, caution means moving the fixing point slightly rather than cutting a reinforcing bar. Drilling into a party wall or a façade requires your written agreement first.
Does moving help include a van?
No. This is help with handling: dismantling and reassembling furniture, carrying, loading your own vehicle or the one you have hired. Transport itself belongs to a removal firm, and for any real volume it is far better to use a company whose trade that is.
